Did you know Radon gas is the second highest cause of lung cancer in America. It is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that comes from the ground. There is no way to detect radon before you build a house. It can accumulate in homes and other buildings making the occupants sick with no warning. Evergreen Builders will install an active radon mitigation system in every home we build. This removes the radon before it has a chance to enter your home. Keeping the radon levels in your home as low as possible.
Air quality is always a concern. With today’s building standards, houses are built tighter and with less air leaks than ever before. With the high standards and advanced materials that Evergreen Builders uses, our homes will have less air leaks than most. With the absence of leaks, how do you get fresh air? Evergreen Builders will put an Energy Recovery Ventilator in every house we build to ensure that the air you breathe in your Evergreen home is always clean and fresh.
We use advanced framing techniques that allow us to increase the R-values on the insulation well above code levels. On average, an Evergreen home will have the following levels of insulation.
Attic R-40
Walls R-36
Unfinished Basement R-19
Finished Basement R-32
We even put insulation under the basement floor. The granite countertop will be colder than your basement floor. The insulation helps block noises from the outside, making our homes quiet and comfortable.
Windows on a house are always a place where energy efficiency is lost. Evergreen Builders uses high quality windows with argon gas and low-e coatings to help mitigate the energy loss. Argon gas gives the inside pane a buffer from the outside cold and will ensure that your home is not drafty. The low-e coatings will help block the damaging UV rays of the sun, so the furnishings and flooring will last longer. It also helps block the heat and lessens the glare. We try to keep the average U-factor on our windows at .26. With U-factor, the lower the number, the better the window.
The majority of homeowner warranty claims are from water damage. Water can cause the most widespread damage with just a little leak. Evergreen Builders goes to great lengths to make sure the water doesn’t have a chance to permeate the outer shell of the home. We use Tyvek Drain wrap on all of our homes combined with special flashing on the windows and doors to prevent water from getting in. It may cost a little more money, but it’s worth it. We also add another layer of foil coated foam insulation on the exterior wall of the home. This adds to the R-Value, gives another layer to the water defense and helps keep the outside noises outside.
We install a 95+ furnace and a 16 seer AC unit in our homes along with a recirculating tankless water heater. Add LED lighting and energy efficient appliances and it adds up to money in the bank for homeowners who have lower utility bills.
We finish the home with materials that will last for years without needing any maintenance, like Hardie siding, Trex decking and 30 year architectural shingles.
At Evergreen Builders, we give our homeowners generous allowances for cabinets, countertops, lights, flooring, appliances and fireplaces so they can customize their homes to fit their personal taste.
